ABSTRACT:

This presentation will share the research design in conceptualisation and operationalisation of scales development to measure the creativity for design education. Since 2003, I was started my second stage of career in teaching design programme that included the vocational training, teacher training and professional training of art and design students. I taught in more than 10 international and local design schools from associate degree to master degree in design. After I conducted various informal observations and small-scale empirical studies in assessing creativity in schools, jobs training and recruitment interviews. The initial findings showed that there are no reliable and valid tools (or instruments) for general design teachers and design leaders to assess difference in creativity between individuals in an objective and scientific manner way. This means that there is a lack of teachers or professionals who can adequately explain how to judge who has more/less creativity as a latent trait (unobserved) from educational or psychometric perspective. At present, there is no objective way to assess a student’s creativity in the context of design education. Therefore, this presentation will share the development of scales for assessing objective measurement in creativity for design education.
